COVID-19 TESTING

COVID-19 TESTING Services

If You Experience A Sudden Loss Of Taste And Smell Or Develop A Dry Cough, Consider Covid-19 Testing. A Quick Throat Or Nasal Swab Can Determine If You’re Contagious And Help Guide Treatment.
COVID-19 testing is a lab procedure that diagnoses the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). During a COVID test, we collect a sample of mucus or saliva with a cotton swab and perform onsite testing.

You can benefit from COVID-19 testing if you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Body aches
  • Headache
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion
  • Runny nose

COVID-19 can also present gastrointestinal symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Three Peaks Urgent Care offers several types of COVID-19 testing, including:

Reverse Transcription (RT) Polymerase-chain-reaction (PCR) COVID testing

A RT-PCR test analyzes your mucus or saliva for genetic material from the COVID–19 virus. To ensure accuracy, PCR tests identify several viral genes instead of just one.

Antigen COVID testing

An antigen test evaluates your mucus or saliva for the presence of antigens –– specific viral proteins. If you have COVID-19, antibodies in the test bind to them, causing a positive result.

Antibody COVID testing

Antibody testing doesn’t determine if you’re contagious. Instead, it looks at a sample of your blood for the presence of COVID-19 antibodies. If antibodies are present, it means you’ve been exposed to COVID at some point in the past.

The time it takes to get results depends on the type of COVID-19 test you undergo. Antigen tests provide results within 15 minutes, but they can present false negatives. PCR tests typically take 50 minutes to process. As soon as your Three Peaks Urgent Care provider receives the results, they call you and explain them.

There are various steps you can take to prevent the spread of COVID–19. Three Peaks Urgent Care recommends:

  • Getting vaccinated and boosted
  • Washing your hands
  • Avoiding poorly ventilated spaces and crowds
  • Covering coughs and sneezes

It’s also important to regularly clean high-touch surfaces, like door knobs and railings.
